Aino-Maija Metsola — Helsinki, Finland

“My collaboration with Marimekko has been very close almost throughout my whole career so I guess the most important highlight of my life so far has been when I got my first print in Marimekko’s collection in 2006. Lately I have been travelling with Marimekko in the US and China and that has also been very interesting, rewarding and important for me as a designer.”

Aino-Maija Metsola is a Helsinki-based illustrator and print designer mostly associated with the Finnish lifestyle brand Marimekko. Since 2006, she has been designing fabric prints overflowing with rich colours and bold patterns for them. She combines minimal shapes and symbols with contrasted colours, producing modern folk tapestry that evokes the glorious Finnish landscape.
