David Foldvari — London, UK

“I’ve never found it that hard to keep ideas flowing. I buy cheap notebooks, which I fill full of shit drawings and pretentious ideas, and then I go through it all to filter out the good from the bad, and that feeds my work endlessly.”

Distinctive, satirical and often unapologetically caustic, David Foldvari's monochrome illustrations combine political subject-matter with a dark sense of humour. Born in Communist Hungary, he moved to the UK aged 12 and took to making biro drawings as a way to surmount his feelings of isolation — themes of identity and alienation still feature heavily in his work. Limiting his options (and palette) is key to Foldvari's approach, as is speed, especially when delivering work for newspapers such as The Observer.
