Herbie Fletcher — California, USA

Herbie Fletcher was one of the pioneers of the longboard revolution in the mid-70s and, a decade later, he became a tow-in pioneer in Waimea when people still looked at the giant waves with respect. At age 66 he still goes to the beach every day to feel closer to the ocean, which has given him so much throughout his life.

“In the rock n’ roll world we have Iggy Pop and Mick Jagger” sport journalist Jamie Brisick wrote in 1996. “But in the surf world we have Herbie Fletcher”. These powerful words are perfect to introduce one of the biggest icons in the “wave culture”, still active thanks to his companies and his innovative artworks, which have been exhibited in the most renowned art galleries in California.
