Lotta Nieminen — New York, USA

“Beautiful colour combinations are one of my biggest influences and can be the whole starting point to an illustration or a design piece. I like to take snapshots of colour combos and use them later in my work. I like to draw my inspiration from things that aren’t from my own field and I also think the fact that I work in both illustration and graphic design shows – when I illustrate, I like to get inspired by graphic design, and vice versa.”

Lotta Nieminen is a multi-disciplinary designer and illustrator living and working in New York. Originally from Helsinki, Finland, she has been working as a freelance since 2006 and has received numerous international awards; she has also been selected by Print magazine for its annual New Visual Artists review, highlighting 20 international rising designers under the age of 30. In 2014, she was nominated for Forbes magazine’s annual 30 Under 30 list in the Art and Design category. Nieminen approaches graphic design in quite a minimalist way, using space and colour in surprising combinations. Her expansive and multilayered illustrations have been gaining wider audiences globally, making her one of the hottest creative talents in Finland today.
