Marta Gawin — Katowice, Poland

After the political changes in 1989 in Poland, considerable chaos has dominated the image of Polish state institutions. In the absence of uniform and specific decisions relating to the method of forming the image of these institutions, it is to be expected that the state is often perceived as an internally broken organisation. That’s why I’d like to develop my thesis project — a visual identity system for the structure of Polish state institutions. The identity system would be based on the idea of the separation of powers and would include the main bodies of the state, as well as central and local government institutions.

Marta Gawin is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer from Poland who specialises in visual identity, sign systems, posters, information, exhibition and editorial design. Since gaining her MA in graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice in 2011, she has been working as a freelance for cultural institutions and commercial organiations. Her design approach is conceptual, logical and content-driven. She treats graphic design as a field of visual research and formal experimentation.
