Parra (Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
Parra accepts only a select few commercial design jobs per year.
An underground star in Amsterdam, where kids search the streets to tear down his club posters as keepsakes, Parra produces work that is treasured by a generation of design fanatics. Parra grew up surrounded by colours, oil paint, wood, weird-looking pictures and Rubensesque paintings. He is almost entirely self-taught. Minimal colour palette, beautiful hand-drawn typography and esoteric characters are reminiscent of screen-printed poster designs of the 1960s and ’70s.
