Rikako Nagashima — Tokyo, Japan

“‘Making things better’, ‘Adding something with a creative mind to make things work’ and ‘Giving pleasure to people’ – these are the elements I value for my design. I have always loved drawing since I was little, but becoming interested in design came very naturally to me because I came from a poor family that lived deep in the countryside and I did those three things mentioned above quite unconsciously on a daily basis.”

Japanese graphic designer Rikako Nagashima has established herself as one of the most exciting and significantly influential designers in the country, capable of blurring the lines between design, contemporary art and fashion. Often applying natural objects and a hand-made process to her unique creative work with bold and beautiful visual outlines, Nagashima has managed to transcend any commercial interpretation of what her design might be.
