Jose Mendez — London, UK

What is the most memorable piece of illustration you have come across? “Two years ago on one of my trips to Japan, I went to visit the Tadanori Yokoo museum. He is of one of my favourite Japanese illustrators/artists and I was blown away by the quality of his work. I really appreciate his approach to illustration, which is not really commercial.”

Jose Mendez is a Spanish illustrator and artist based in London. Originally from Madrid, he took a degree in graphic design, finalising his studies in Paris in 2012, and he did a master’s in animation at the University of Arts London. For the past three years he has been developing creative projects in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Tokyo, Spain, Melbourne and Bali. His work is characterised by a colourful palette, bold shapes, wavy lines and great use of contrast.
