Design Display #3 — Material Research — Wolfsburg, Germany — 1 NOV - 28 FEB 2017
Autostadt, Stadtbrücke, 38440 Wolfsburg
DESIGN DISPLAY series solely focuses on two objects placed inside a single display, and thus initiates a dialogue revolving around design and its role in contemporary society. The new edition seeks to redefine our approach to natural resources and investigate how design research can produce knowledge for the future. Designers Julia Lohmann and Petra Blaisse transfer scientific examination into the world of design. On one side, Lohmann’s mobile research station, the “Department of Seaweed”, develops new methods for how seaweed can replace fossil fuels, as well as how it can be applied to objects. On the other, Blaisse’s “Solar Curtain”, an aesthetic, ecological product shows how previously unused surfaces can be rediscovered and then utilised.
