450 SQ. FT a group exhibition by the ST/ART Street Art Collective IdNPRO Shop Shop C, 5-9 Gresson Street, Wanchai, HK 01.07.06 - 31.07.06 Hong Kong has one of the most space restricted and expensive real estate markets in the world. The average size of the Hong Kong flat is just 450 square feet; and this often needs to house an entire family. The HK Government defines any apartment over 1,000 sq. ft as "luxuary", yet to most people in the west would seem like a minimum requirement. The accompanying price are as extreme as the space themselves, with an average selling price estimated to reach almost HK$5,000 per square foot by the end of 2006. The ST/ART exhibition 450 SQ.FT. aims to draw attention to the growing space vs price issue in HK while at the same time postively demostrating that every single square foot of space can have a meaning and value above and beyond it being a mere commodity that is exchanged between the greedy and unimaginative. The exhibition presented a personal view of living in HK through the eyes of those residients who see and perceive every inch of the city space form a different perspective: the street artist.
