You can have it all!

If there were any truth in the saying "You can't have it all", there would be no such thing as fusion. "The act or process of fusing or melting together" is the dictionary definition of fusion, and the word is now widely applied: to food, music and the arts in general. It is essentially the coming together of what had hitherto been regarded as separate entities: breaking down the distinctions, crossing over the dividing lines, leaping the barriers.

One man who has done more than most to put the fusion philosophy into practice is Stephen Lau, author of Fusion: Inspiration and founder of the Eleven18 Studio. So seriously does he take the concept, he has applied it to the way he lives his life as well as the way he works. Lau believes that, in fact, you can have it all, and that the key to "fusion without confusion" is the skill with which you mix and match.

Why separate your interests from your career, for instance? Why devote the major part of your energies to doing something that simply generates the means to enable you to do what you really want to do? Isn't that a criminal waste of time? Having fun and making money need not be mutually exclusive, Lau believes. In his book, business and pleasure can and should be combined to be able to enjoy life to its fullest.

Lau founded the Eleven18 Studio in 2005 as an underground graphic-design house. The diversity of his illustrations and characters are to be seen in a range of merchandise, including T-shirts and vinyl figures. Being musically endowed, Lau has set up his studio to cater for his rock’n’roll enthusiasm, too. It recently released a debut single, which will be untitled, featuring Lau on lead vocals.

The studio has held successful exhibitions in Japan and Malaysia, not to mention having collaborated with Medicom on the "WE SUPPORT" Tsunami project, producing exclusive versions of Bearbricks with Delta Inc for stores such as Colette, DPMHI, Project 1/6 and IdN PRO.

Fusion: Inspiration is a further step towards the realisation of Lau's dream. Within its 200-plus pages, the works of more than 50 artists from a dozen countries are featured. Each of them has a different style, but when you put them all together, a magical kind of harmony is created.

Its author would like you to enjoy this book for its own sake, as a unique aesthetic experience. But he also hopes that readers will be inspired by it to consider the infinite possibilities of fusion: and how such an approach can dramatically change your whole outlook on life. Even if, in absolute terms, you cannot actually have it all, there is certainly nothing to stop you from having everything you want.
