China Dolls by Nathalie Daoust — Rome, Italy

China Dolls is a photographic installation comprised of hand painted B&W portraits that are then re-printing on more than 500 ceramic tiles that was – for the first time – exhibited at Ilex Gallery in Rome. This project focuses in the fragile and delicate situation that women are currently living in China and the particular care which is needed to ensure them a role in their country's future. China dolls forms a body of work that serves as a perspective on the young women of China, struggling to find their identity in a rapidly changing country. Caught in a transitory state, the women are now uprooting themselves from their former constraints.
