“The truth is that we are constantly exposed to new trends and references which, moreover, are the same for everyone. However, there is indeed the freedom for each person to internalise them according to their preferences and personality. Paradoxically, therefore, the source of popular culture is individuality. We each associate pop culture with what we enjoyed during our childhood and teenage years. In my case, I fear this has a strong influence on my work. And while it’s not ideal to get stuck in nostalgia, sometimes it’s inevitable.”
Dani Blázquez is a freelance illustrator based in Granada, Spain. After studying illustration in Asturias, in northern Spain, he began his career in 2013. Since then, he has collaborated with different clients from around the world, participating in projects mainly focused on advertising but also including film-poster design, editorial work, and more. In his artistic and more personal work, he has collaborated with many galleries and art spaces. His influences are diverse; the aesthetics and graphics of the ’80s and ’90s, various pop-culture icons, the vintage era, and the animal world… Essentially, anything that captures his attention can be reflected in his graphic style and creative process.
