What would be the next big thing for Game Art Design? “One is simplification of game visuals. As we get closer to hyper-realism, the need for more abstract, stylized or simplified visuals will continue to rise. Second will be VR-based tools to design and create art game assets, such as painting and sculpting directly in a 3D space using a VR set. For example it would mix several development disciplines into one, from concept art and UI to 3D modelling and level design, all done directly into the same 3D space as the game. And not only for VR games, but using VR tools to create regular games.”

Davison Carvalho is a visual artist currently working as Head of UI at Amazon Game Studios and as screenwriter for a TV show. For the past 11 years his main focus has been on games and freelancing as a visual-development artist on movies. His games include HALO Infinite, Fortnite, Mortal Kombat X, Lone-echo and Paragon and he has been involved with films such as Star Wars (7 and 9), Avengers Endgame, Thor Ragnarok and Captain America Civil War.
