“If the last big thing for game art design was the transition from traditional tools to digital media, then I think the next big thing will be the introduction of AI, interactive and procedural technology. Technology saves cost on projects, optimizes workflows, and frees designers from repetitive labour and unleashes creativity more efficiently. More daringly, I imagine that the design process itself can even become a game, and that the process of players playing may also lead to new designs, which is what my master’s thesis was about.”
Entei Ryu is a concept artist and digital sculptor currently working for the entertainment industry and based in Tokyo. He graduated from the University of Tokyo’s Department of Architecture. He says that his personal work is dedicated to trying to find his own artistic language through new creative media such as digital painting, sculpting and 3D printing.
