Giovanni Stillittano — Milan, Italy

“The level of detail a font can have depends on its usage. What comes first is defining a layout hierarchy, assigning to each part of a design a well-defined role. Once this has been identified, one can understand how much to push with eclecticism on the single texts. Aside also from the necessary coherence between a given typographic style and the communication message, there are other factors to be considered, such as text size, the medium (printed or digital), and the reproduction technique.”

Giovanni Stillittano is a creative director and designer from Bolzano, Italy, currently based in Milan, where he works for Auge Design. His primary focus is on packaging design and branding. He is also Chapter Lead in the Milan chapter of Type Thursday, a monthly event centered around typography.
