GOO CHOKI PAR — Rei Ishii, Kent Iitaka & Q Asaba — Tokyo, Japan
What do you enjoy most about designing event and festival identities? “Being able to experiment with artistic challenges rather than commercial success. When trying to express the concept of an event, its purpose is often vague or abstract. It is like painting on a white canvas. There is a great deal of room for a graphic designer’s creativity there, and it is an area where some new visual expression is appreciated. In this respect, its design production is very enjoyable and rewarding.”
Goo Choki Par is a design and art unit formed in 2015 by three graphic designers — Rei Ishii, Kent Iitaka and Q. Asaba. “Visual communication transcending language and thinking” is at the heart of their inter-disciplinary creations. Their work aims to “stretch the boundaries of graphic expression and free it from convention by combining the aesthetic sensibilities of the three designers and funneling them into a single expression”.
