IT’S A LIVING — Ricardo Gonzalez — Brooklyn, New York, USA

“Fear of heights while painting big murals and at the same time extreme exhaustion from painting long hours and travelling a lot. It’s hard work but I do enjoy projects like this because they push me to my limits. Another obstacle has been working with whoever you have in the moment, thus learning to improvise, and all this comes from travelling because you cannot always find the tools you are used to, so adaptability is key.”

It’s A Living is not just a statement but also a life philosophy for Ricardo Gonzalez, a designer and artist from Durango, México, currently living in Brooklyn. His signature script style can be easily recognised from large-scale murals to commercial work for some of the biggest brands to a simple sticker in the streets. “A word is an image,” he says, “and an image can be interpreted in so many ways. The direct approach of typography has been an exploring path where the main goal is to question our daily living and to produce a positive impact.” After all, as he says, it’s a living.
