Jens Marklund — New York, USA

“The piece that has received the best response from people has been my interactive vinyl cover for Janácek’s Sinfonietta. People are fascinated by the way that two identical patterns rotating on top of each other can create so many different variations. I find that a lot of design today has become heavily dependent on illustrations rather than focusing on the content. By only showing two things – one die-cut with the pattern, and another showing the name of the music – it creates curiosity around how the two interact with each other.”

Jens Marklund is a Swedish graphic designer currently living in New York. His designs come from a hands-on process aimed towards a conceptual and experimental outcome. Having grown up in Sweden, his Scandinavian roots helps him to sort out the clutter that comes out of the process – in order to maintain a minimal aesthetic.
