“Good editorial design is a challenge. Within every piece, many smaller design concepts coexist. The cover plays the role of a miniature poster. The pages, though each one an independent entity, are like an animated film: frame-by-frame they carry the viewer through the plot. Typography, photography and illustration must come together to create distinctive, coherent mood. Incorporating all these components successfully stretches the imagination of the designer. A book, album or magazine should be perceived both visually and sensually. They should capture the intangible essence of interaction, while possessing a timeless quality preserved in print.”

Joanna Tyborowska is a Polish graphic designer specialising in typography, editorial design and poster art. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. Since then, she has worked as a freelance graphic designer and an assistant lecturer.
