“Typography is my main drive and my inspiration. My starting point is an idea and I then try to produce a system that identifies and decisively manifests it. I attempt to make my designs look simple. I think that the concept should determine the shape. I remove the shallow elements in order to maintain the idea’s integrity.”

Amater Type is a typographic foundry created by graphic designer Juan Odriozola. Derived from the French word “amateur”, meaning “lover of”, rather than its English derivative that signals “not a professional”, Amater believes in expanding cultural horizons and broadening typographic philosophy. With the aim of using complex processes to achieve simple results, Juan makes fonts that are both functionally relevant and stylistically elegant.
