Marc Rimmer — Calgary, Canada

“When printing on kraft cardboard, the margins for error can be pretty large. It’s a great, low-cost way of printing that can have a lot of impact when done well, but it can be a challenge dealing with poor registration and broad-trim margins. It is an interesting limitation to consider while working – a design that allows for or even incorporates sloppy printing and trimming, rather than crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.”

Marc Rimmer is a multi-disciplinary designer and art director specialising in identity design and packaging. He likes to collaborate one-on-one with small, community-oriented businesses and local artists and works primarily with clients in the food and music industries. Often working on a number of limited-budget projects, he is always exploring new low-cost techniques, and believes that a great packaging experience doesn’t need to be lavishly expensive.
