Paul Bokslag — Kilkenny, Ireland

“The Pattern Exchange was commissioned by Workhouse Union as the display typeface for a group exhibition of the same name. They guest-curated the show for Temple Bar Gallery in Dublin, Ireland in 2015. This modular typeface developed from the idea that rather than being a mere decoration, the pattern could form the actual structure of the glyphs. The font can still be downloaded for free from the gallery website.”

Paul Bokslag is a Dutch artist and designer based in Ireland. He works in various media, including painting, print-making and papercut installations. He enjoys using everyday materials and slow making processes. A recurring design element is the dynamic between positive and negative space, in both two and three dimensions. His type-design projects focus on small display fonts.
