Santiago Luna — La Paz, Bolivia

“One thing that can come as challenging is finding a good balance between expressiveness and legibility, depending on the project’s needs. Sometimes, I lean into disruptive type design or opt for a more expressive approach; however, this could result in the typeface being less dynamic in terms of usability, fitting only specific scenarios. Additionally, designing complex letter shapes can be tricky to ensure they fit together in a coherent system, considering all possible letter combinations.”

Graphic designer and visual artist Santiago Luna focuses his practice on disruptive type design and lettering, visual identity and contemporary arts. He has won the finalist award at the TEDA Cup International Youth Design Competition in Taiwan and participated in art exhibitions in Japan, Finland and Bolivia.
