Studio Kohl — Mumbai, India

What is your most memorable promotional design? “We had a promotional work called ‘Cut OK Paste’ that was surprisingly successful. It was a set of paper dolls that could be printed out flat, cut and pasted into 3D toys. I offered it as a free download and I got quite a few of them.”

Studio Kohl is a boutique design house based in Mumbai. It claims to “build visual languages that define brands, and craft meaningful images informed by a thorough understanding of content”. It consists of a small team of graphic designers who enjoy working closely with musicians, trend-setters, activists, NGOs and game-changing lifestyle brands that speak to niche audiences. The studio says: “We do this by engaging closely with culture. Inspired by Indian art history from folk arts to alternative sub-cultures, we use image-making in unconventional and challenging ways.”
