TypeTogether — Veronika Burian, José Scaglione — Prague, Czech Republic
“A typeface needs to be designed as a system with logical relationships between the elements that make it distinct from lettering. However, this does not mean that everything has to look the same. What can be interesting and exciting is consistency within inconsistencies, without becoming random ‘creativity’. When judging the quality of a font, it is important to look out for stroke harmony, consistency of modulation, curve tension and letter structure, as well as a common design language, and balanced and consistent design features. Nothing by itself is truly unique, but derives its originality from the combination and contextualizing of ideas, impressions, experiences, and technology.”
