“It’s important to have an interesting colour balance; don’t be afraid to experiment with colour. Forget any rules about what colours should and should not be seen together. Also, the right balance between elements used in the pattern is important. To create a striking pattern I usually draw a variety of motifs, shapes and lines by hand or Adobe Illustrator, and later finish it off with Photoshop.”
