William Branton — London, UK

"I find most plain repeat patterns boring; they need to have an interesting motif, be highly complex or have a large repeat area. Personally, I find patterns that are very elaborate, intricate and complex can be the most visually exciting."

"Pattern design is very natural for me: I love just sketching and doodling. It all stems from that most basic form, pen and paper. Discovering interesting shapes, lines, forms and ideas for possible motifs are all enjoyable. I think pattern design for me was very natural and instinctive. I have learnt by being curious, looking, seeing and doing. I think it is like any skill, the more you do it the better you get."
