badcass — Philippe Gully — Quimperlé, France

What makes a good business card/identity design? “It should be memorable and eye-catching and best represent the function and personality of the person presenting it. You should be able to take pleasure in it and use it to display your individuality. While it is true that excessive use of printing techniques cannot replace a simple, practical design printed in black, incorporating bold colours such as fluorescent yellow on the edge of the card can increase the chances of it standing out among others.”

Philippe Gully has been a letterpress printer since 1985. He is the founder, with Jessica Hosgood, of the badcass workshop. He was given an FPO award for “Best print work produced around the world in 2013/2014”. He works alone, which enables him to be more immersed in his work.
