Raluca Băraru — Bucharest, Romania

What makes a good character design? “One that manages to tell the story at first glance. Be that aesthetic details, shape, chosen colour or personality, it must all fuse into one particular narrative, with the parts completing or complementing each other so that the viewer can be led into that story’s universe.”

This Romanian art director has a traditional art eduction so she experiments a lot with such techniques as ink, watercolour, acrylics and oils. She says: “I do not concern myself with the “big art” issues but with illustrating my bubble of inner struggles and using art as therapy mainly. Working is my tool for disregarding the absurd, the violent, the uncontrollable nature of things around me.”
