“To me, the basics of pattern are composed of giving visual clarity to a multitude of ideas and influences. This includes the recognition of forms as much as their potential for repetition in the same or different contexts. Variety is equally important in order to catalyze a playful dynamic within the fixed structures of the pattern. Most important though, is some sort of disruption, an inconsistency that pops up within the pattern. It makes structures exciting and lends a whole new dimension to them.”
